Clos d'Orsignac
Bergerac
Elodie Corrieu of Clos d'Orsignac came to our attention when we tasted her wines in Bordeaux in 2021. Elodie works 5.5 hectares of vineyards that have been certified organic for over 15 years, in the commune of Saussignac, right in the heart of the Bergerac wine region (85km east of Bordeaux). The vines are 130m above sea level on the left bank of the Dordogne river.
The soils of Clos d'Orsignac have the classic clay and limestone that you find in some of the great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir regions around the world, but here the grape varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec for the reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle for the whites.
In the winery, each grape variety is vinified and aged separately before being blended into the finished wine. She uses a variety of vessels depending on the wine including barriques, stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs. This gives Elodie a great amount of control and flexibility and also allows the identity of each parcel to shine though in her wines.
